Type a page's title and description to see how they look in search results on desktop and mobile, and where the search engine will cut the text.

The preview is approximate: search engines change their result layouts and sometimes substitute their own text.

What a snippet is

A snippet is a page's block in search results: a title, an address and a couple of lines of description. People decide from it whether to click or scroll on. A good snippet brings more clicks from the same position, with no extra promotion spend.

Search engines usually take the title from the title tag and the description from meta description or the page text.

How to write a title

  • Put the essentials first: what the page is and why it is useful. The end may get cut.
  • Give every page its own title: duplicates confuse both search engines and people.
  • Put the company name at the end after a separator. The home page is the exception.
  • No comma-separated keyword lists: search engines dislike them and people do not click.

How to write a description

Summarise the page in one or two sentences: what people will find, how you differ, what to do next. Numbers beat general words: price, timing, quantity. Do not repeat the title, it wastes lines without new information.

Why search results show different text

Google and Yandex may replace the title and description if they think other text on the page answers the query better. This happens most when the description is too short, too long, duplicated across pages or does not match the content. So the preview is a guide, not a guarantee.

(03) — Questions

Questions.

How many characters should a title have?
Search engines cut titles by width in pixels, not by character count. Aim for 30–60 characters, but wide letters take more room. The preview on this page shows cuts more accurately than a counter.
Do I need a description if search engines change it anyway?
Yes. For home, service and product pages search engines show it most of the time. Without one they pick a random piece of text, not always a good one.
Why are there no stars, prices or FAQs in the preview?
Those are rich snippets. They come from Schema.org markup on the page: reviews, prices, questions and answers, breadcrumbs. This preview shows only the basic snippet.
Where do I change the title and description on my site?
Most CMSs have SEO fields for each page: in WordPress via an SEO plugin, in Bitrix on the SEO tab, in Tilda in the page settings. On a custom site they are set in the template or in an admin panel, if the developer built one.
Are my texts sent anywhere?
No. The preview is built in your browser, nothing is sent to our server.
